This activity gives you the opportunity to analyze a business plan proposal.  You will incorporate your knowledge gained throughout the entire course, drawing upon the following: financial reporting, concepts, and performance measures to write an executive summary of a business plan.

1. Read the Mini-Case Study 1:  A Proposal to Add a Retail Pharmacy to a Hospital in the Metropolis Hospital System, in chapter 26 (ps. 301-306) of your text, then carefully review the information provided. 
2. Once you are familiar with the financial status of MHS, write a 1½ -2 page executive summary of this proposal.  Your executive summary must address all components of a business plan. It should be compelling and summarize the entire project.  Be clear, concise, factual, and nonjudgmental in your statements.
3. As a part of your responsibility in your organization, you must prepare supporting information to train your staff in preparing a proposal.  Applying the concepts you have studied throughout the course, explain in 2-3 pages why you believe the board supported this proposal.  At a minimum, you must address the following concepts:
   1. Revenue projections
   2. Volume projections
   3. Gross Margin
   4. Pricing of prescriptions
   5. Working Capital
   6. Renovations
   7. Regulatory or legal considerations

Remember, you must analyze the documents and synthesize your knowledge of the course.  You will likely find that some of the information you use in your executive summary may also be pertinent to your support of the board’s decision to approve the project.

Paper Guidelines:
Your paper should be a total of 3,1/2 – 5 pages long. Use of headings in your paper is required. At a minimum, you must separate your executive summary and recommendation support using headings. You must apply your readings, including the textbook and a minimum of 2 other readings assigned in your syllabus. Please put your name on the first page of your paper, and in the file name.  You will cite all references using APA 6 Style. Please refer to the Excelsior OWL “Research Corridor” Resources.  Click “Documenting” for the “APA Style” and the “APA Citations” links.

Compose your work using a word processor (or other software as appropriate) and save it frequently to your computer.  Be sure to check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors before you post it.

When you’re ready to submit your work, click Browse My Computer and find your file. Once you’ve located your file click Open and, if successful, the file name will appear under the Attached files heading.   Scroll to the bottom of the page, click Submit and you’re done.

This assignment is worth 15% of your overall grade and will be evaluated according to the SHS Executive Summary Assignment Rubric .
