Assignment Reflection Example

What Is the Assignment Reflection?

The more students know about themselves as learners (their time management skills, self-regulation skills, and their learning preferences), the more likely they are to succeed in college and later in their career. The purpose of the Assignment Reflection is to help you reflect on your preparation strategies and your performance so that you know what adjustments to make to improve your academic outcomes.

Assignment Name (10 points)
:

Choose ONE of the following and type the name of the assignment below: Time Flies, Information Literacy, or the Plagiarism Quiz.

The Syllabus Quiz (
example only—for the actual assignment you must choose from one of the 3 assignments above)

Reflection (20 points)
: Identify at least three (3) ways you prepared for this assignment/exam. How much time did you spend on each? Use complete sentences.

1. I set aside fifteen minutes every morning before my family got up to review the syllabus.

4. I created flashcards on Quizlet using the key policies and requirements that I took from the syllabus. This took me about half an hour, and then I spent roughly two hours quizzing myself.

5. Right before taking the quiz, I spent fifteen minutes reviewing those flashcards on Quizlet.

Comparison (20 points)
: Identify at least three (3) areas where you lost points on this assignment/exam. If no points were lost, identify at least (3) areas where you excelled on this assignment and explain why. Use complete sentences.

1. I lost points on the question about how much deduction there is for an assignment that is seven days late.

2. I lost points on the question about what type of equipment and materials I need for the course.

3. I lost points on the question about the deadline for turning in assignments each week.

4. I was surprised I got the question right about how to look at my active course grades. I completely guessed at that one!

5. I lost points on the question about when my initial discussion board post is due each week.

Adjustments (20 points)
: Identify three (3) things to change in preparation for the next assignment. For each change, explain how you will make the adjustment for future assignments. Use complete sentences.

1. I need to spend even more time studying for quizzes. I have a hard time retaining information and I need to review the material at least five times to commit it to memory, which is something I didn’t do for the Syllabus Quiz. I plan to spend more than 15 minutes a day preparing for a quiz.

2. I need to read the questions on quizzes more carefully. I am often nervous, so I rush through the quiz just to get it done. I end up misreading the question, and as a result, I mark a wrong answer.

3. I have major test anxiety. I need to research strategies for reducing my test anxiety to help me stay calm when taking tests and quizzes.

Self-Assessment (20 points)
: What score did you earn on the assignment you selected? What score did you expect to receive on this assignment? Why do you think you did better or worse than you expected on this assignment? Explain using 3 – 5 complete sentences.

I ended up with a score of eighty-five. I expected to do better. I think I did worse than I expected because even though I studied for the quiz, I didn’t study effectively. I am starting to realize that I am more of an auditory learner, so I need to find ways to record my notes. I think playing an audio recording of my study notes while I am driving or cleaning my house will help me retain the information long-term. Furthermore, even though I did use Quizlet flashcards, I could have used them differently. I could have looked at the flashcards on my phone and read them aloud to myself while pacing my living room. Getting out of your chair and actually moving around while reading your flashcards out loud will satisfy the kinesthetic and auditory learner in me.

Mechanics (10 points):
You will receive a grade out of ten for grammar, punctuation, spelling, clear writing, etc.
